Sky

We currenty have sky at home, just the basic package. We have BT for our Broadband and Phone. We are thinking of getting rid of the BT Broadband as it is rubbish and going with Sky.

I called them last night and asked about upgrading to Sky + and getting Sky Surf. They have quoted me £99 for upgrading to Sky + and an extra £20 on top of my monthly subscription and a one off fee of £20 for broadband.

Is there anyway of getting this cheaper?

(Sky - send you bills without any clear explanation on what you are being charged for - stick to NTL)

Phone sky again and say you want to cancel. After some questions, they will put you through to the cancellations dept. This dept can offer you special deals so that they won't lose your business. Tell them you want to cancel. They will ask why. Say you actually wanted sky + but it is too expensive and that you are considering purchasing a twin tuner freeview box with a built in hard drive (this does the same as sky plus but for freeview channels and no subscripition costs). They should then offer you either a free reconditioned sky plus box and free installation or a new box and free installation for £49.

Stick to your guns and they should eventually let you have a new sky plus box and installation for free. It worked for me!!

Don't bother changing your broadband - both ADSL systems will be running through the same telephone line so unless it's actually a fault with the BT exchange equipment you will see no improvement in your service. Have you asked BT to check if there are any problems with the line?
Can you get Virgin broadband? They are offering 2 services for £20 atm and might waive the installation charge if you ring and say you are 'thinking' of changing from Sky, and what can they offer you! ;)

I receive monthly paper statements from Sky fully itemised for my TV, Phone & Broadband. I can also access them via interactive on the TV.

I got broadband connect @ £5 per month but they don't send out the Sky Router until you are connected so be prepared to be offline for a week!

It depends a lot on which ISP your with as to what speed you'll be getting, there all sorts of factors to take into consideration such as contentions ect or is the ISP just crap like mine.If all ISP's supplied 8meg on a 8meg connection we'd all go for the cheapest,my ISP can supply me at a max speed of 7.2 meg on my line but it rarely goes above 3meg and most of the time it's around 1meg.I've done the checks like they asked and the lines fine, many more people are moaning over at thinkbroadband about Eclipse.Anyway once july comes i'll get my mac code and migrate

Did that yesterday but said I was cancelling as the shows I liked were never on when I had the time to watch them and they asked if I had considered Sky+ ;) straight away they offered me a new Sky+ box for £49 with free installation  which was the offer I was hoping for.

P.s. Don't forget that the £10 charge for Sky+ is to be dropped in July , I got a credit of £20 off them to cover the next two months Sky+ charge.
