Anyone working within NHS ?

I currently work within the NHS but am really unhappy, If anything I feel trapped and don't know what to do.
I am really thinking of quitting and going back to college to do what I don't know yet (I am a woman who can never make up my mind), hubby and I have spoke about it and he is worried about finances but he is due a promotion in May which could earn him and extra 10-15k but that would affect my job anyway due to mine being pro rota basis, Anyway what I would like to know is can I just do bank? I spoke to someone from bank today who kept going off and coming back but he said My manager can recommend me for bank (which I know anyway) and when I come to finish I can tell bank I just want to do bank? (I thought when I finish work I would have to finish bank?) OR I can apply for banking via nhs jobs (But there are none showing)
Also who do I hand my notice into is it my manager or HR?
(There are other reasons why I need to leave too)
Thanks for any help.

I work for the NHS. We have a lot of bank staff that just do bank work. And also staff who have left but have still stayed on the bank and done the odd shift here and there so it is possible.
Have you thought about taking a period of unpaid leave and see how you feel about it. One of my colleagues took 3 months off to go to Australia and ended up staying out there another moved to Florida for 6 months but then couldn't get a visa so came back and had her job to come back to. The grass isn't always greener and its a lot harder to get into jobs at the moment. Or what about sticking with your current job and re-training through the OU or other distance learning.
Give it some serious thought before you give up your job. I know working in the NHS can be trying at times but I think it's a wonderfully industry to work in.0 -

Thank You
I love working within the NHS in a way, but hate the way I get treated and many of my ward stuff are leaving so which means even more pressure on me, I can just about cope now.
IF I get my manager to refer me for bank can I still bank when I have handed my notice in (And who do I write to do this).
Thanks again0 -
You can join the bank, then resign from your substantiative post and work on the bank.
I did this to have more flexibility (i wanted to have every fourth week off) I even did all my bank work in the same department and my old manager was fine with it.0 -
Yes you should be able to still bank once you have handed your notice in. I would detail in the letter that you are handing notice in for your substantive post but that you wish to continue on bank.
However are you sure that they are going to offer you bank shifts? In my area we have around 9 bank staff on the books but there is only maybe 3 or 4 that get offered shifts. It seems the same ones are always there and others get forgotten about.
How about staying within the NHS but looking at other roles. Keep checking NHS jobs. One of the good things about the NHS is that once you have your foot in the door it's easy to move around. I started off as a band 2 HR assistant and now I'm a band 5 stop smoking specialist, love my job at the moment but am thinking of maybe moving over to other areas of Health Promotion.0 -

Thank You exactly what I want to do, I will also do some bank shifts on our ward too BUT pick when I want too.
Thanks so much I am now reassured..
Oh quick question again, how soon can I resign after manager has refered me for bank? I am hoping to leave by mid July .0 -

I am clueless on how to do that to an extent and to be honest I do not wish to be stuck on my ward all the time for many reasons so just want out but of course stick with bank, I am also going to college full time in September so can work around that, I know I can get bank shifts within my wards as they are short staffed and will be even worst off when 3 other hca's leave within the next mnth. :eek:0
