What jobs to go into from retail Banking

Hello, Has anyone worked in a retail bank and gone into something quite similar but...different... away from the bank? IE got qualifications or moved away from the customer based side of it. I haven't been doing it long but just wondered if there were any other opportunities out there if you do well enough in the bank.
Thanks
Thanks

I had a mate that went from retail into corporate banking and then when it all went belly up into business banking. The majority of banks will have a recruitment page where they'll advertise internal vacancies. It'll include things like the requirement to have at least 3 reviews at a certain performance level, what grades can apply, qualifications needed etc0

Hi,
I started as a Cashier in a bank the worked up to Personal Banking Advisor and finally a Finacial Advisor.
I then decided to step away from sales and go into Compliance and I love it! I still enjoy the buzz of the dealing floor but now I get to protect clients.
Compliance is a hot area to get into at the moment as it's needed everywhere.0 -
It sounds like you’re thinking about moving away from both the banking sector and customer service. Have I got that right?
It also sounds like you want to take some of your banking experience forward. I’ve no doubt you’ll have some really valuable transferable skills (a well-used phrase but true!) especially if you’re in a customer service based role right now:
· good communication and 'people' skills
· the ability to work as part of a team
· honesty and reliability
· good mathematical skills
· accuracy and attention to detail
· the confidence to sell financial products to customers
· good computer skills
· discretion, to deal with confidential information.
... and I’m sure you can add to that list!
You can see examples like the list above in each of the job profiles listed on the National Careers Service website. If you’re thinking about staying within banking for while longer, to build up a good base to transfer from, then it might be worth kick starting a bit of research into other career ideas within the financial services sector. With experience and further training you could move on to become a mortgage adviser, a financial adviser (like beckysbobbles1) and then onto management.
In regard to qualifications it might help if you could tell us which qualifications you’re referring to. Could that be something like an NVQ in Retail Financial Services, a Certificate in Financial Administration or a Customer Service based qualification maybe? Are you working towards any qualifications right now?
You say you haven’t been doing it long but I wonder; what did you do before you started work at the bank? What I’m trying to say is that there could be a whole lot more than just your banking experience and it’s likely that the next employer will want to know more about the whole package not just your banking experience!
Sorry for all the questions but I’m keen to find out more so I can add some extra ideas!
I wonder if there are other people out there who’ve used their banking experience and qualifications to move onwards and upwards elsewhere in the world of work. Where are you?
