Calorie counting and homemade food!

I've been using a mobile app for calorie counting, there is a very wide range of foods on there, all major brands and supermarket own.

Thing is I cook from scratch a lot, and you can 'save' things on it which would be handy for meals we have regularly but I don't know how to work out calories per portion.

Does anyone know how?

You might want to look at myfitnesspal; you can input a recipe item-by-item, decide yourself how many portions it makes and it adds up the total and gives you a calorie count per portion.

I've found home-made recipes - provided I don't go mad with portion sizes - are generally lower-calorie than ready-prepared foods, taste better and knowing exactly what went into them is a bonus!

If you like the site (I didn't get involved in any of the "social" stuff, but you might want to), there are mobile apps for all platforms.

For ready-prepared food, they have an excellent database and if no other user has entered your food, you can fill in the values from the packaging yourself. You can even save favourite meals.

It's a big help!
