Dentist in Manchester?

I'm eligible for up to £125 worth of dental treatment on my healthcare cashplan and am currently looking for a dentist for a general checkup. I've never had fillings and never had any problems but as i haven't been to the dentist in 5 years i thought i better had do.

Is there any dentist which you would recommend for a general check up. I've checked out some websites and they seem preoccupied with teeth whitening etc, i just want a checkup!!

Thanks :)

There's a dentist by the university - my boyfriend went and he seemed quite efficient and ok but not the nicest dentist in the world.

Try asking friends/neighbours/workmates. £125 should be plenty for an initial examination and a clean up at a private practice, so don't break your neck hunting out an NHS place.

Which part of M/cr are you in?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

In central manchester at the minute - i've looked at a few private dentists in manchester on the net but they have very little information on a basic examination, only information on whitening of teeth and surgery so am sort of scratching my head. I would ask my friends/family but they simply don't go to the dentist as they can never find (or tried) to find an NHS dentist.

    Try the Denplan website

    https://www.denplan.co.uk

click on the 'for patients' bit, and then there is a 'find a dentist' option, where you put in your postcode.

If you get a few - it's well worth visiting your shortlist in person, just to get a 'feel' for the place, and assess the staff for the level of friendliness and professionalism displayed. You can also pick up practice leaflets/brochures, and compare prices.

the one on oxford road near the uni is ok - but it definitely feels like a conveyor belt of patients. it wasn't my cup of tea but having been in a 100% private practise before, i think i was expecting different things than are possible when someone is on entirely NHS work. nothing wrong with it, just everything a bit tattier and old equipment etc. about the only nhs dentist i could find at the time (before the new confusing rules though so no idea about it now!)

Yep, that's the one I went to I think.

It's only one guy and a receptionist, and he keeps swapping patients around whilst they're waiting for anaesthetics etc. But he does seem to know what he's doing.

I'd rather have some patronising middle aged bloke who knew how to wield a drill rather than the nicer than nice but completely inept blonde bint I used to see.

They should do tests on hand-eye co-ordination and spatial awareness before they let people even think about taking up dentistry!

The one I go to is in St Ann's square (a little door next to MacDonalds). They're expensive but really good. Just pop in and speak to them.
