CSA closed my case

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and couldn't find a thread with the same question so apologies if I have misread
I opened a case with the CSA back in 2002, i kept them up-to-date with ex's employers, addresses etc but never heard anything back for a long time so I assumed that they just couldn't trace him.
Yesterday (8/4/13) I managed to get new information of his current address, employer, phone number etc so rang CSA with my new information for them to tell me the case was closed. On asking the reason for this, the chap proceeded to look at the notes and replied that there wasn't a reason, he said as far as he could see, i was doing my part by keeping them updated on his wherabouts, then there was no reason why they closed the case
They made me open up a new case today which means that my ex, if tracked down, has gotten away with 11 years worth of money to help raise his Son..I am gutted as I have struggled financially to raise him for years
So my question is, does anyone know if I can dispute this or get them to re-open the old case? If so, can you please point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in advance..

Hello
I'm sorry that I can't offer any advice, but I'm a new poster too and noticed that no-one had yet replied to you and just wanted to wish you all the best with your claim.
Having made numerous calls to the CSA myself over the last few months only to be told that the onus is on me to do all the legwork I can only empathise with your frustration.
Good luck

Thanks Gracie
I hope your claim speeds up and you get the money that you so deserve! It's hard work doing all the leg-work but hopefully it will all pay off soon! xxxx
Is there anyone out there who is able to give this newbie a bit of advice? Pleeaaseee? Just so confused and frustrated at the moment that I cannot think straight..:(
Thankyou xxx0 -

Sadly the only advice I can give is don't get your hopes up for a speedy resolve, either the NRPs are compliant or they are not, sometimes they change, but it's usually from compliant to non compliant0 -
I didnt think csa could close a case when theres arreas out standing or you hadent of asked for or it to be closed..
Id ring bk ane speak to someone else and theres a how to complain bit on csa website but im on my phone so cant add link..
Good luckIgnore reality.There's nothing you can do about it.
I have done reading too!

This is an odd one, and you need more info from the CSA. I would start by writing in and requesting copies of all your clerical and system records, and any recordings of calls with you that they still have. It costs £10, but should give you the details you need to work out why your case was closed.
Did they ever make a decision about how much you ex should pay? Or was it closed before the first calculation was done? In that scenario there are only a few reasons why they could legitimately close a case:
1) They thought they didn't or no longer had jurisdiction, i.e. someone moved abroad or an existing court order was brought to their attention or you were no longer the primary carer of your son;
2) They were unable to trace your ex in order to notify him about your application. In that case, they should come back to you for any more info you hold, but if that still doesn't result in a successful trace they can legitimately cancel your application;
3) They asked you for some more info and you didn't respond. They then have to write to you advising if they don't hear from you they will close the case, and if they still don't get a response, they can close the case.
Those are the only scenarios I can think of that would result in the case closing, and in all scenarios they should write to inform you of the decision and your dispute and appeal rights. You then have one month, which can be extended by a further 12 months with good reason, to exercise those rights.
Without knowing when and why this happened, it's difficult to give relevant advice.I often use a tablet to post, so sometimes my posts will have random letters inserted, or entirely the wrong word if autocorrect is trying to wind me up. Hopefully you'll still know what I mean.0 -
My friends just gone through the EXACT same thing. There was no explaination why it was closed other than "admin error"
She went right through the whole complaints proceedure and as it was proven the CSA wrongly closed the case they paid her a one off "apology" payment
They should have sent you a letter stating the case is closed (This is what they told my friend) ask them when / if they sent this.0
