Certificate of Discharge

Hi all.
I expect the answer to my question is on the forum somewhere but been looking for last couple of hours and not finding it so here goes.....

Bit of background....Me and the wife went BR in Dec 2009 & we were automatically discharged from the BR in Dec 2010 and everything finalised in Dec 2012 we've even been told we can keep the house as there is still no equity in it. Hurrah:j

Our bank (the Nat West) let us keep our joint account albeit changed it to a basic account, the problem is that my wife still works for herself and subsequently really needs a personal bank account (even a basic one would do) but the bank has refused her even with the letter from the IS stating we're now discharged! But they are still requseting a copy of the official Discharge Certificate! I was under the impression that this letter should be enough proof of discharge in almost all cases so I supposes this is one of the minority of cases! (or just the banks pigheadedness).

My question is this 'Where do I get the Certificate from and what sort of extortionate costs are going to be involved?'

Sorry for the long winded prequal to the question.

Thanks in advance
Jez

From the court for £60-70 now I think. You can be exempt on the same conditions that someone might be exempt the original court part of the BR fee.

Yes the bank is being unreasonable, but they can ask for what the wish.

Personally I would go to a different bank. There are plenty who don't have their heads stuck up their backsides over this.

Will the court charge me for a certificate of discharge?
The court will charge a fee of £70 for issuing a certificate of discharge. Further copies will cost £5 each.
If you write to the office that dealt with your bankruptcy they will provide a letter confirming your date of discharge. There is no charge for this.

Hiya all again many thanks to you all.

    Just a quick question...
Do we need to to apply and therefore pay for one each if required or does the certificate cover both of us?

    One each.

Waste of money. Try a different bank. Barclays basic for example. Make sure that any application is really for a basic one.
