Job available in same company

Hi all,
there is a job going in another department which I have seen advertised externally. I am interested in the role as its similar to my own - but pays more. we also have an internal board - but the job isnt on there.
The manager of the team approached me and asked if I was interested. It looks as though my manager is causing problems though as he doesnt want to lose staff.
My question is are they allowed to stop me moving? It is a completely different department with a different director (but same company overall)

yes but there wouldn't be much point as it just creates a disgruntled employee who will be looking to leave externally at the earliest opportunity.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

You could always apply for the job through the external posting. Make it known to the manager of the team that you applied through an external channel. That way, you'll be leaving your job and moving to a new one, just in the same company, rather than moving internally and facing a potential block.
I doubt they'd refuse to let you though.0 -
thanks for the advice
