b & m newbie

Hi there, I'm going to a town with a b&m on Wednesday so I've been looking at the website.
I found 24 sponge scourers for 99p, 500ml Dettol for 1.99, 10m extra thick foil for 69p and a Smooth Operator ironing board cover for 2.99 for OH
However there's no substitute for experience and I wondered if people could tell me other things to look out for please ?
I try to eat organic, wild or additive free and use eco-friendlier cleaning products and laundry detergent but we do still use things like :
foil, cling film, dusters, teatowels, plastic storage containers, hand sanitiser, mouthwash, black shoe polish, black shoe laces, Mr Sheen type stuff for cleaning computer screen, sponge scourers and garbage bags and I try to pick these up cheap.
Does b&m ever have Nouvelle, Velvet or Andrex Eco loo rolls ?
Little Me organic baby cream (great moisturiser) ? Organix or Plum organic toddler snacks (for OH's lunches) ? Weleda toothpaste ? Any kind-to-hair-not-full-of-chemicals-shampoo (noo idea what I'm looking for there, but that's the general idea) ? Cheap paperbacks ? Wrapping paper ? Incense ? Scented candles ? DVDs ?
Is it cheaper than Wilkinson ? (The town I'm going to has a big one).
I'm also looking for a silly meerkat for OH, preferably Sergei (he lurves that ad), would I find something like that eg doorstop ?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I've not been to one before !

I love B&M for cleaning products, toilet paper, kitchen towelling etc, and also for really nice decorative objects for your home.
I was actually in there today and got some new tea, sugar and coffee canisters for only £1.99 each, and they look fab! They have some excellent kitchen stuff. I got the OH a bin for his office, again £1.99, and quite a while back now, I got 2 morocan lamp candle holders (about 9" tall) for either £3.99 or £4.99 each, I've seen them retail elsewhere for about £15-£20, and again they don't look cheap, and they look gorgeous in my living room.
The kitchen towelling we get there is 6 rolls for £1.99 and is just as good quality as any brand name (can't remember what make it is), and the toilet rolls I think are 9 for £1.99 and again, they are excellent quality!
I get sponge scouters from there too, and stuff like toilet cleaner and wipes etc, I'm sure I've seen Eco friendly cleaning products in there too.
They have wrapping paper, incense and scented candles, and plastic storage containers galore! I was looking at them today, and wondering wether to get another container I use for the microwave which has a vent on top as they are very handy, so look out for them, white container with red vent, handy to warm things up in the microwave, store food in, take to work etc, I'm sure they're only 99p.
Infact, most of the things you listed, they sell, although I'm not sure about the branded toilet roll etc?
I noticed that they also sell some of the Tigi hair care range now too, at decent prices, but I'm not sure if they are free from all the nasty chemicals etc?
But yeah, to sum it up, I love to have a good old mooch around B&M, I'm sure you'll find some great bargains there! As for the Meercats, I don't know, I've never seen them....but I love them too, my favourite is Vasilli (sp?) :rotfl:0 -
We got a new b&m as been in one in mums home town couple times but never had good look around.
Ours is huge where old focus was and has garden centre.
yes to candles/incense.
Not sure about eco cleaning products.
think little me is in 99p stores.
used to buy it from boots.
I did post in organics thread other day that managed to get bag of small boxes sunmaid organics looked like american market as sure was approved by american organisation for 89p i think.
I had kids and husband with me so couldent really have good look round plan to next week when poorly kids back in school.
I brought 6pack toiliet roll £1.29 was ok.
brought wrapping paper.
I brought some branded food items not overly impressed with their chopped tomatoes.
They were selling seeds.
I noticed the tigi but were massive bottles and £9.99 and was skint.
I need new cansiters.

Thank you to georgiegirl and gailey for posting such good info there.
Getting excited about my shopping trip, got £20 in card from MIL this morning. Going to look for Moroccan lamp holders (love Moroccan style stuff) and candles and incense, definitely.
Thanks for reminding me about raisins I forgot about those gailey. Not sure if there's a 99p store, if so will have a look for Little Me, for sure.
Hope it's warm tomorrow !
Anything else I should look out for ?0 -
I checked out my raisens was multipack of 9 little boxes think paid 89p.
says usda organic on.
They possibly have other organic stuff couldent really have good look.
I read that the cheapy shops get same asupplier as approved foods yet approved foods has very little organics.
We only just got 99p store in city centre its american where the 99cents store sell loads of food over there.
Little me used to be cream packaging and quite pricey in boots.
I guess it varies on size of store and these shops tend to be when its gone its gone so have stuff limited times my mums store in old woolies probably has less than outs which is new build huge shed on retail park.
re morrocan stuff store 21 used to have quite a bit. used to be bewise.
large primarks have not bad homesections.
There are some bargains to be had but advice is shop around.
b&m not like poundland where everythings £1.
not sure if b&m stock this but farm foods and pound world do
the salt and pepper glass grinders £1 each for sea salt or peppercorns.
got b&m pasta its ok.

I've found some really good organic bargains in B&M but it really depends on when you're there. I've had several crazy jacks dried fruits, dorset cereals and other bits and pieces also fairtrade rainforest certified percol coffee. You need to take your time and just have a good look.
The range had a load of moroccan style lanterns and bits recently.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

1.99 for 500ml Dettol is not that great.
Dettol is usually £1 in most places (Home Bargains, Poundland and I'm sure B&M do it for £1 too?)0 -
Have you tried the astonish range of cleaning products (you may already use these), they are approved by the BUAV, they are around 99p, although some shops sell them for 1.25. I get mine from approved foods as I buy from there, but superdrug should sell some of the range.
Ive yet to find another cleaning product that I like as much. Also as an aside, all superdrugs own brands are suitable for vegans or vegetarians, toothpaste, cleaning stuff, shower gel.
Theres a B and M in my home town but I dont use it much, my mum uses it a lot, she tends to buy stuff like bird seed in there. I would imagine that their bargains change quite frequently and some of the stuff you need to be quick or its gone.0 -
The Astonish cooker and hob cleaning paste is very good allways have some in but its only 89p in Home Bargains.0

I got tonsilitis for my birthday so didn't get to go
Hoping to get there Saturday.
I haven't tried the Astonish products and didn't know they were BUAV so will have a look thank you
Superdrug - haven't been in there in years, I didn't know they did own brand cleaning products. Will have to look in there.
Don't have a Home Bargains anywhere near me just Poundland, Wilkinson, Superdrug and 99p Stores. b&m won't be too much of a trek occasionally but the nearest Poundstretcher is an hour away by train and The Range is so far away it's cheaper to get stuff from them mail order.
I lurve the smell of Dettol.I hven't seen any in my local Poundland or else I would have snapped it up -maybe it sells out fast.

I have been lucky and found organix bars there in the past for Thomas :T but in my one they don't have a lot of organic things so you might be hard pressed to find them in your store x
They are great for household things but I have to recommend IKEAs 95p scented candles! :rotfl:Wife and mother :jGrocery budget
