The Grocer magazine - not a newspaper I know but nevertheless many a time in my office I have sat down and had a quick read. Here is a brief summary:
Innocent Drinks and Mcdonalds - the news is that McDonalds will be selling Innocent smoothies which has come as a shock to some in certain quarters and may even lead to a backlash. A loss of innocence, as it were. But the addition of Innocent smoothies wil have obvious appeal to parents and children alike. It will trial drinks across the North of England until November and stock them permanently if sales are strong enough.
Volvic touch of fruit will spend £4m on advertising in 2007 with a new national TV campaign. Volvic ads will feature Mr Volcano and Tyrannosaurus Man.
Red Bull are launching a bigger can - for consumers looking for more energy (oh yes please !)
Gallo in sensational Link up with Walkers - Gallo wine will feature on 10 million Sensation crisp bags and 600,000 bottles of Gallo cabernet sauvignon and Chardonnay wine with a promotion called Divine with Wine. The campaign offers consumers the chance to win either £1 off a bottle of Gallo wine or a free bottle. **This sounds like a great offer **
Ristorante are introducing new frozen pizzas with spicy jalapeno peppers
Vegetarians furious as Mars bars go off limits
Vegetarians can no longer enjoy some of the UK's most popular chocolate bars following a receipe change by Masterfoods. Mars, Bounty, Snickers, Twix and Milky Way as well as Maltesers and Minstrels are now off the list of foods veggies can eat because they now include whey containing animal rennet. Products with a best before date of 1/10 are still suitable for vegetarians. The company is offering a refund to those who cannot eat animal rennet on any bar that has a later best before date.
Covent Garden are launching ready meals with style with a new range of indulgent chilled dishes. It is launched exclusively in Sainsbury's this month.
