Avon etc

I was in the process of starting something like Avon but just realised I may not be able to as I am a undischarged bankrupt. Am I right in thinking catalogue distributing is classed as me running my own business? Or does a franchise style thing come under a different thing? Sorry for being thick

I believe these opportunity are self employed sales roles so would be classed as running a business.

You can run a business whilst undischarged but I believe the restriction is that you must notify those you are doing business with of this fact.

Worth phoning the receiver to clarify

Avon is a multi-level marketing business and as such, as long as you do not take on £500 of credit you don't need to disclose your bankruptcy.

I became self employed (again) three months into my bankruptcy

The main restriction is not obtaining more than £500 of credit without telling the creditor you are undischarged BR - note there is nothing to stop somebody giving you more credit than that if they see fit.

If possible just trade under your own name to avoid any complications

Some of these Network Marketing type opportunities T &C contain clauses if a petition for the Distributor's bankruptcy is presented to any Court having jurisdiction over the Distributor they will terminate your distributorship. So worth checking out.

They do a credit check when you sign up for Avon. My friend failed so they wouldn't let her do it.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
