What old style ingredient to clean these please?

Fire stones ... they have got a bit bashed and lost their shine.

have you still got the instruction manual which came with the fire? they normally give you the care tips for the stones.
can I ask if they are the opaque ones like chalk or the clear ones like crystal?

Thanks for your reply, they are the latter ones, like crystals (although they don't look like that now obviously)!

hmm even real crystal will 'bruise' like this.
is the material they are made from really hard and cold like glass or warm and more like a resin?
if like glass then perhaps they could be re-polished? if not, then a good wash in hot soapy water may help (but probably wont remove the 'dings')

as for no instruction manual - if you know the make and name of the fire then have a look onsite, using the search box, as many manuals have been reproduced on here. or on the tinternet.

They are glass like. I have tried in the past to wash with soapy water which didn't work. I think i also tried searching previously for a manual/care instructions; and in the end was exhausted with it and gave up; but i will retry.

    Thanks again.

is the manufacturer still in business? if so, perhaps there is a contact section on their webpage? wouldn't hurt to email them and ask how to restore them or even if they have any in stock you could purchase?
otherwise you may have to find a gemstone polisher with a tumbler who could polish them up for you.
or see if you could get similar firestones on Ebay?

The bulb needs changing in the fire, so once i have done that i will take note of any details on the back of it or underside. Never thought of Ebay. Gold star for you. Thanks for all the your suggestions.
