Can you pay with cash or is it that they just don't prefer it?
You can have a read of the Cashminder account here and call the number to apply

I'm suprised anyone wants cheques now adays.
There is the option of postal orders but they cost money. Quite simply you will have to say that you do not have a cheque book, end of story. If you haven't got one you can't use one ergo you can't give them a cheque and they'll have to accept cash.
Co-op, pop it into google.
Sorry I can't be more help than that.

Building societies will normally issue a counter cheque at the branch with no charge.
I've found that useful when sending payments.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I had the same concerns about not having a chequebook, having children I get many letters home asking for payments for this and that.
I get round it by going into the school and paying cash for school trips ect also sometimes I have asked a friend to do a cheque and then I reimburse them.
It was a lot easier with my own cheque book but as I havnt got one and probably have very little chance of getting one I have to make do. Some people just accept it, others look completely phased as if they just cant comprehend why somebody wouldnt have a chequebook in this day and age.
Thats their problem.
Can you tell me how you get a bank account over the phone? dont they need proof of ID?
My partner is trying to get a basic cashminder account as he was made b/c last year but he is having problems with id as he has no current passport, driving license, and as we have just moved little proof of address on utility bills.0 -
I always send in cash, although the schools say they want a cheque they have never refused my money! :rotfl:0

Methinks the days of the cheque are numbered anyway. So many shops wont accept them anymore.BR 18 Oct 2006 Discharged 16 April 2007 :T0
