No, I did make it explicitly clear that I wanted to pay off the loan in its entirety. Nice thought though, thanks.

As I said earlier, its 15 miles away. And really I don't see why I should have to.

Don't be silly, just go in and get it sorted. You'll pay more if you don't.

Well good luck with this anyway. I'm afraid that whilst the data protection act is in itself a very good thing, it has also become the answer to "dey p'can'tbe a*sed" dealing with something!

Yes I did. See answer above, you have to go to the local branch and prove who you are.

So then go in and get it sorted. 15 miles is hardly a massive distance, do you have mobility issues? If so, ask them what process they have in place for people who physically can't get to a branch.

Or you could just sit at home and be stubborn.

Thanks all for the helpful replies and the very helpful PM received.

All now sorted. Turns out the Co-Op adviser misadvised me in the first place as the nearest branch is a lot closer as you can use Brittannia BS branches. That ascertained, I went in to my much closer BBS branch and their staff helped enormously.

As stated, I did NOT have a passcode set up on the account, although there was a security question name which I honestly didn't remember setting up and have never been asked for before. Perhaps if the original adviser I spoke to actually knew what they were doing rather than merely repeating 'computer says no' over and over, this mess might not have occured or could have been resolved much quicker.

And they still have not responded to my letters, which is appalling whichever way you look at it.

    Anyway, all now resolved.
  • Thats horrible that all the advisors you spoke to never knew what they where doing.

The seven days are up and I still have not had a reply.

Did you make an allowance for the Easter weekend?

    Glad you got it sorted.
  • I'm glad you got it sorted but in all honesty I think I would have just travelled the 15 miles and saved myself a few days of stress.

It is annoying when they refuse to communicate though. I sympathise with that.
