Recommend me a decent Hoover for carpets?

Options
Hi all, I have a dyson cylinder Hoover but the head on it is useless for picking up on my upstairs carpets (I have laminate and tiles downstairs). The mini brush attachment is fine for the stairs but impossible for larger areas like the landing and bedroom. My hair and dd's hair seems to be everywhere upstairs and just gets pushed about with the dyson.

Sooooo my choices are splashing out £50 on a turbine head or up to £100 on a Hoover to keep upstairs, will be much easier to keep one upstairs and may be able to get my kids involved with more chores too?

Does anybody have any recommendations of a decent Hoover to fit my purposes, I was thinking a pet one might be good for my hair problem?

TIA

Not a fan of Dyson, had one once and it fell to bits just after a year! I now have a Samsung and have had no problems and it picks up better.

Just make sure that you have a high wattage at leaster over 1700, it makes all the difference.

Second vote for a Henry here!

I had a Dyson for all of two months before giving it away (I hated it!!!) and getting a Hetty.

    Best vacuum I've ever had!!!

I've had this one for nearly three years. I find it's fantastic and lightweight so I can hoover the stairs as I go up. I've got two long haired cats and it's been the best hoover I've ever had.

Couldn't put a link up but there's one being sold on amazon for £89 but you might get it cheaper elsewhere.

    Good luck

I think any upright vacuum will be better than a cylinder for getting hair out of carpets.

We've had one of these for a couple of years and I'm happy with it

Miele are good but very expensive and also quite heavy. I've just retired my Miele and bought a Bissel Cleanview (Pets Plus) and it's brilliant.

PS: It's impossible to have a Dyson cylinder Hoover............Hoover don't make Dysons! You have a Dyson cylinder vacuum :)

Thank you for all the replies, I took on board the comments on upright cleaners and power and ended up buying this beast....

    2300w power
    300 air watts

Omg it's amazing, I hoovered my landing when I got back, it had been hoovered the day before with my dyson and  the amount of dust it picked up was shocking! It's a bit noisy but thats to be expected with the power :)

I will be keeping my dyson downstairs for the laminate floors, it's a bit of a weakling ;)

Henry Extra or just a plain old Henry, good old workhorses go on and on and on. That's why builders use them. And yu can imagine the stick they get from Builders.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I actually borrowed a Henry last week to have a go and wasn't too impressed with the performance on my carpets, mine and dd's hair goes everywhere, you could probably make a wig out of what my new Hoover has picked up since Saturday :o:eek:. It was fab on the laminate and tiles though, and really great to manoeuvre :T

You should buy a Miele Cat and Dog.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
