If you had bought it from a butchers then it wouldn't have a date on it and you'd have sniffed and eaten it if it was ok.Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0

Don't forget that meat straight out of shrink wrap does smell initially anyway; you are warned on the packaging.
I'd not be overly concerned to be honest."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
How long do you think fresh meat would be hanging up at a decent butcher's in storage? A lot longer than a few days. If it's been properly refrigerated since purchase nothing bad will have happened to it.0

i'd cook it and eat it. it's not been exposed to air like counter meat.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

I'd certainly eat it unless my nose gave me very definite indications to the contrary.0

We largely ignore sell by dates. We are using single cream which has a use by date of 28 March and it's fine.
If it smells ok i should be fine especially if shrink wrapped.0 -
How big is this fridge? I would definitely cook this meat on a slow roast over many hours with a stock in the pan. You will know fairly soon if it's off as it will smell nasty whilst cooking.

lamb gets a green sheen when it is nasty. Open it and don't sniff it straight away.. leave it a few minutes then sniff it.. shrink wrapped meat stinks.

shrink wrapping certainly prevents air borne contamination and its been refridgerated - I would open it leave it ten minutes then look and sniff. if the meat still looks and smells fresh then use it (actually, its red meat so could still be a bit off and not cause a problem - think of game which is hung till it stinks).
Cook it well done - not pink and you will be fine!
Come back and let us know hun - if you disappear we are gonna worry!!!!!!!!!!!0
