I have a terrible habit for this and have been doing it for the last twenty years or so!
The only thing that broke was a toaster and it was out of guarantee anyway so no point of holding on to the box.
You could always undo the boxes so they fold flat?
I still save mine, I have an attic full!0 -
well we thought about flattening, but then do you need all the packaging inside the boxes too? if its just the outside that would be ok with me. unfortunately most of the items have lots of little boxes inside and the thought of putting them back together is frightening lol£18 for my old mobile.

I keep all my boxes (in the loft). Either for returning if necessary or when moving house. It's a great help to just be able to pack things in their original boxes, cuts down on the hunt for (and expense) of packagaing materials.0

You don't need to have the original packaging to return items which have developed a fault. Just hang on to the proof of purchase. If you will the end, you must will the means.0

Of course you don't, but so much easier if you have the box. Even if a seller will collect, they won't pack it.If you will the end, you must will the means.0

I don't generally keep boxes, except the tv box and polystyrene. That TV is big and annoying, so figured it's worth it for a future move. This did actually prove prudent when I had to return one set for replacement, and was asked to pack it up for collection. So much easier to send it back.
I have no attic though, but do have a fabric covered metal 4 poster bed, so found by opening out the TV box it goes behind the headboard area and is well covered, no one sees it, and it's well out of the way there.
Anything else, the box is kept for a few weeks to ensure it is working, then trashed.0 -
I just returned a broken record player to Urban Outfitters that was still in guarantee - it was a pretty big package but I didn't have the box. I asked them on the phone when I was arranging a pickup if that mattered, and they said not at all. They didn't expect me to still have the box after six months, and they're replacing it for nothing even though I couldn't pack up the old one. So I don't think you need to keep boxes!0
