NIL tax code... is it always given?

I only earn £9900 per annum at the moment and the tax free allowance is £9205. My tax for 13-14 will come to around £100 or so (if the online calc is correct).
Given its such a small amount will a nil code be applied? I wonder if it would cost them more than £100 per annum to actually set the nil code up and payments etc.
Just a little worried about our payroll guy and the fact confidentiality isn't in his vocabulary . It is a very small family run establishment so just a little worried everyone will know
My surplus from essential expenses is £8 per month, I've been told by CCS that if my surplus is less than £20 pcm no IPA will be sought. Even with a nil tax code the 'suprlus' inc the tax would be less than £20 pcm so would they apply the nil tc?

Income tax is a provable debt in bankruptcy.
It is quite likely HMRC..once they are made aware of the BR, will issue an NT code.
NT codes are applied for any number of reasons....including serious overpayment of tax previously.
If any untoward information stems from your payroll person, then they are in serious trouble with the Law with regards to information and confidentiality.....
Your employer should have, in place, a grievance procedure to be followed if disclosure of personal information occurs.
The question that arises from your post, and the information therein, really is, whether the OR [Moonbeever] will bother to collect the surplus raised by the NT code?
If, for such a small sum, it is likely to cost more to administer the collection, than would be raised...the OR may not bother [whooptidoo for you, eh?]
Don't be ashamed of your BR....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Thanks. The payroll guy is the MD's son, so i cant see any benefits of raising a grievance, id probably get sacked lol. I
I can imagine the 'ooohhh a nil tax code eh?" he will be shouting0 -
It used to be if the tax was under £50 that it wouldn't be collected as it wasn't worth it. Though I haven't seen one in a while so I don't know if it is still the case.
If the NTcode is applied and any thing is said then just say you haven't the fogiest why it is and aren't you lucky. If the guy happens to ring Her Maj's Tax Bod's to ask then they will not tell him and will give him short shrift for asking.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -

Interesting. I currently have had 1 month of nil tax - March 6th to April 6th, and now my tax code has changed back to something resembling normal.
I sought advice from the OR's office on what to do with the £400 odd nil tax money sitting in my account. He said He would inform MB and they would contact me to arrange a collection/payment method. That was over a month ago. To this day I haven't heard a thing!!
To be on the safe side - I have withdrawn this suprlus tax money and put it to one side for when they request it. When that will I'm not sure.
Has anyone else on here waited ages for MB to collect any nil tax money?Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy crap we dont need!:think:0 -
I paid mine direct to trustee via a standing order, give them a call if its on your mind x0
