Hair style advice..

I really love Alexa Chung's hairstyles & have found a particular style I love.
Now I need advice on how to describe to the hairdresser what I want including the colour of her hair in this photo.
At the moment, my hair has ash brown roots with a number of highlights running through. There are far to many highlights at the top of my head tho'
So..I need help in what I should say to the hairdresser? Alexa has darker hair on top, with blonde strands lower down. Now..does the hairdresser highlight those & then use a blonde toner?
I'm always pretty useless when describing what I want & I generally end up with something I don't like lol.
Anyway, any advice would be helpful.

Why don't you just take the pictures in to show the hairdresser ?0
-
Yes I will do. However, just need the heads up on exactly what to ask for.
I know it sounds weird, but I'd like to be able to know what I'm on about.
When I have had highlights done, she just puts a very weak peroxide solution on & my hair comes out in different shades (which, to be honest, I don't really like).0 -
Just show them the pic and say, I would like my hair like this if possible. Any good hairdresser should tell you if it can be done or not
If you are not happy with your current hairdresser why don't you try a different one ?0 -
I am happy with her overall. She's lovely and spends a lot of time on my hair.
I'm just rubbish when it comes to hair and makeup. I'm also pretty rubbish at stating clearly and force-ably what I want. I generally just give a brief outline & let the hairdresser get on with it lol.0 -
You need to ask for Ombre Highlights0
-
Yes l was going to say getting lighter towards the bottom or looking like your hair has been dipped in dye at the ends is called ombre. So if you only want strands if it that way, highlights. Taadaa!I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Just ask for your hair as close to the picture as possible, use the broken record technique if you don't want to be dissuaded. Or go somewhere they actually listen to you and do what you want, it's no use spending ages on your hair if you don't like the result. If you start using jargon she could use jargon back that you don't understand and you will be bamboozled.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Thanks for all the replies folks.
I am actually now seriously consideing just going dark all over, as I can't be bothered with the fuss.
From searching the internet, I found a similar style to Alexa's however this one is dark. It's Zooey Deschanel's hair style /colour.
I think this will be easier in the long run and if I can't afford to keep getting my hair coloured by a hairdresser, I could colour it myself.0 -
L'Oreal do a dip dye hair colour now if you are considering colouring at home.0

Ooo I wouldn't risk doing that at home to be honest. I personally think that this kind of thing needs to be done by a pro.0
