money taken from my account on a cancelled debit card.
Options
I noticed on my statement that 5 separate transactions had been taken from my current account with a debit card which had been cancelled 5 months previously, I contacted the bank and they said because it was a payday loan and i owed the company the money they were well within their rights to use the cancelled debit card to take the money without contacting me first!!!!! Surely this cannot be correct, and it has now left me over 300 pounds short this month when i am on an already tight budget!

Do you owe the Payday company the money?

It is correct, you owed them money and you authorised the payments before you cancelled you card.
Did you really think you could just cancel your card and walk off scott free from repaying your loans?0 -
Why did you cancel your card ? How were you intending to make your payments to the PDL company ? The bank are correct, payments can still be taken from cancelled cards if you have previously given your card details for payments to the PDL company.0
