Temping job

I have been temping for nearly 5 years for the same company via the same agency. Up until today 6 p.m. my holiday period was from 1st Sept to end of Aug. I had accrued some 50+ hours that I was saving for the summer holiday. At 6 p.m. today I received an email from the agency saying that I will receive my holiday pay in my pay tomorrow as they have changed the holiday period to run from 1st April.
I had surgery on both my knees 3 weeks ago and I could have taken paid time off had I known this change was coming. Instead I struggled on working so that I could save my hours for my first holiday in 3 years!
I am livid about this as I am going to have to accrue the hours again before I can have my holiday and with 2 more bank holidays coming, that I have to take from my accrued hours, I am not sure I will have enough hours to go on holiday now. This just seems so unfair. I am aware that at least I will be paid the hours accrued but the terms have still been changed with an evening's notice before the holiday is paid.
Is it legal to change the terms of my contract with an evening's notice, AFTER the changes have come into place?
Any advice/comments will be welcome. Sorry about the rant.
Thanks.

Surely they will let you take unpaid leave, and since you are getting your backdated holiday pay anyway, you will not be out of pocket. If a man does not keep pace with his companions, then perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away. thoreau0

Could you not view it like this:
You will receive the pay for the holiday before you take it rather than at the same time as you take it.
When you take the holiday you won't get paid by the company but they won't stop you taking the time off.
They shouldn't really pay you for the holiday when you haven't actually taken the time off yet. The only time they should pay for holiday not taken is when you leave. However why complain?
Take the money when it is paid, put it into a savings account and earn interest on it, then use that money when you do take the time off.0 -
anamenottaken - Yes, that is the only way I can look at it.
I am more annoyed about the fact that there was no notice given at all.
Agencies are really a law unto themselves.0
