Should work to rectify problem Private Crown be chargeable?

I had a private crown carried out to a tooth a over month ago.It doesn't feal right, when I chew on something hard I'm more aware of the crown and its sensitive to cold food and drink.
I've never had sensitive teeth in the past, should any further work to rectify the problem be carried free of charge?
Say I need root canal treatment, maybe the crown refitted or perhaps other teeth ground down slightly to adjust fit.
Is there any cover as with NHS that any further treatment in the same band is free in a limited time?

One of the things you should be aware of is a tooth that needs a crown is already highly compromised, because it already has sustained a fair amount of damage, hence it needs crowning.
25% of crowned teeth will need root filling and that is no ones fault and cannot be predicted.
Most private dentists will give a guarantee on the work itself , so if the crown needs remaking or adjusting in a certain time that would normally not be charged for.
However root treatment cannot be predicted and will be charged for as , unfortunately, it is one of those things that happens.
Different dentists have different guarantees on work for different periods.
All private work is quoted per piece of work done as is nhs work in Scotland and NI where there are no treatment bands.
You need to return to your dentist to see what needs doing, if anything.0 -
Thanks for the reply. If I have also received NHS treatment within a certain period before this work needs doing on this tooth for say root canal treatment could this possibly be done for free on the NHS?Already down £400 for the crown, any more is going to be painful in more ways than one.
Do I have to have a private root canal if I had a private crown that requires root canal treatment?Or can I a NHS root canal for this tooth that is sensitive following the crown?0 -
If it is the same dentist and if you are in England and Wales then it is possible they may do root treatment on the nhs on the same tooth. The problem is I suspect this is a molar tooth (back tooth) and these can be quite difficult to root fill. If I had to prioritise I would have a private root filling and a nhs crown!
Even if you last had nhs treatment less than two months ago because this tooth had a crown privately this would be a whole new course of nhs treatment and charges.
You need to go back to the dentist and discuss all this because the tooth may not even need root treatment.0
