One step forward, two steps back?

Hi all,

General question, does anyone here feel that when they make progress, a year or two later it's gone again?

Personally I'm trying to make it in the I.T. industry. I had a role on Future Jobs Fund and quickly progressed to an IT Software company troubleshooting job while they trained me in Software Development, 7 months later i was laid off... so that step up turned into a step back. My last job which i lost on the 31st, through again, being laid off, makes me feel i now have to apply for the bottom jobs again to try and make progress anywhere.

Granted, I'm only 25, but the only companies i can seem to draw the attention of is small struggling companies that promise a lot but turns into bitter disappointment.

I've been in the process of applying for a new job for a while, i had the second interview today and just 10 minutes ago received feedback saying i don't have the customer service experience the other candidates have. This irks me. The first interview i had was about my customer service skills, so if i was never going to beat the other two, why was i shortlisted? Despite having the customer service skills they required, i also have more than the knowledge they require in that field. I spent 2 hours getting there with money i can't really throw away because i wasn't paid for the last month i worked.

I guess I'm just gutted, because while they felt I'd be sidestepping and i might get bored with the work, i did feel it was progression for me. I guess it's back to applying for the burger flipping roles and shelf stacking, which I'll get turned down for because my job history now points to the fact i wouldn't really be there very long at my age.

Sorry, rant over. I really, really, wanted that job.

Anyone else with a similar feeling or am i just the only one?
