New Job while on DMP???

Hi all

I think I know what answer is probably going to be, however humour me please :D

I work in financial services and fortunately managed to get current job just before my credit rating was trashed by DMP. We get credit check annually but they are fine with my debt as long as they see I am dealing with it.

I would like to look for another job but am wary of putting myself through the stress of being credit checked and then declined. I have 1 default & 3 accounts showing arrangement to pay but all up to date on payment plans.

Does anyone know if I would be wasting my time applying or do they only look for CCJ's, bankruptcies ect?

Thanks

  • Hello dustybin, whilst most financial institutions are generally ok about DMP's if you are already employed as long as they can see you are dealing with your debts, most will not take on new staff if they are in this situation with another company. You haven't said if this is a bank, building society or insurance etc so sorry if there is some advice that is not relevant.

Unfortunately most of them can be choosy about whom they will employ when recruiting new staff. Under the terms of their recruitment process they will credit check, it is generally very clear during the application process and this is not just CCJ's etc . Plus with some of the major banks they require you to have an account with them and you would be required to pass credit checks to open one. Again part of the terms of employment. Where I worked a few had to be declined employment due to failing the credit check on account application.

Personally I would stay where you are until your credit file is ok if you want to remain in the sector.

  • Thanks that's what I suspected. To be honest want to leave financial sector but not many jobs where I am and hard to break away from finance having worked it for several years.

But hey ho at least I have a job!

  • It's hard as there is something to be said about having a job these days even if it is not something you want to do.

    Good luck.

Are you in accountancy or in financial services when you say you work in finance. Where are you trying to get jobs doing what and are they outside financial services
  • I worked for a major bank previously, now work for mortgage division of building society. Would like a clerical job anywhere just one that doesn't involve a credit check!

Am very grateful for job I have now but am bored with it.

I believe that you will be Ok if you are coming out of the sector, normal clerical jobs in the private sector probably will not ask for a credit check
  • Ox is correct any job outside of the financial sector do not do credit checks. Generally most jobs that require a credit check will tell you either in the job description or the application stage and have to get your agreement to perform those checks.

Apologies if I confused you earlier as I read the post as you wanting to get another job that I incorrectly assumed was within finance.

Find a real do you think i will be ok as you know i am on a 12m contract but may need to get another job. I am an accountant not chartered and do not audit and generally not near the money i do mainly decision support management information. I do not want to work in the financial services sector ever but in your opinion will i be ok elsewhere
  • When I refer to finance I can only refer to my experience of working in a bank, and this generally only includes banks, building societies and insurance.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question but I think it was covered in your thread somewhere by others that have experience in the same field as you.

Please try not to think about the what if's until you need to face it as life can change in an instant. The important thing is to be positive about taking steps on your situation now, and concentrate on that rather than a year from now.
