My mother broke her leg last week, she isn't currently working and isn't claiming any benefits from the government as my father supports her financially. Do you know if she would be entitled to claim anything due to her accident.
Thanks

Thanks:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

What is she actually losing if she doesn't work anyway?
Is her use of the NHS not enough 'benefit' for her?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
Considering everyone in our family goes to work and pays national insurance contributions to provides these services, i thought it might of been a possibility to claim a small amount of benefit, also my father is self employed and has lost time from work which he will not get paid for.notanewuser wrote: »What is she actually losing if she doesn't work anyway?

ie if you work and are sick you get SSP or if you lose your job you get JSA. If you do not work and have an accident you get well nothing, why would you? We’ve had to remove your signature. I can guarantee that the amount you pay in NI isn't enough to pay for the treatment your mother received.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Does your father have an accountant. He could have employed his wife and paid her a minimum salary such as (£144 a week - 20 hours @ £7.20 an hour or any other combination) to do some bookkeeping for the business and that could have enabled her to get national insurance credit. Her wages would have also been a tax deduction and to her they would have been tax free.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Phone a no win no fee accident lawyer. If your mum is entitled to compensation from anybody they will see she gets it.If a man does not keep pace with his companions, then perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away. thoreau0

I really do not understand why you think your mother is entitled to any form of benefit due to injuring herself as she does not work.
Just because other members of the family work and pay national insurance does not mean she is entitled to claim anything from their contributions, doesn't matter if they are married, etc. it's not a 'group effort' for national insurance contributions it's based on an individual and what they have paid into over the years. Many employers pay sick pay but I do appreciate that your father is self employed and has taken time off his job and lost money When he was ill himself. My DH is self employed and gave himself a week of recovery after a major op and then he had to go back to work to keep the money coming in, it was not ideal by any means but it was the only way for us.
If your mother had been working and been ill then she would have got sick pay but she doesn't work. I just can't fathom why she is entitled to anything, she has obviously made the choice not to work and not claim any benefits previously but because she is injured you think the government should pay her money???? Why????????? What is the extra money for that you think she should get? An apology that she fell over and injured herself and to make her feel better with an extra few quid in her pocket to cheer her up?
