Returning to work after statutory sick pay

Hi
My husband works on an oil rig and has been off sick on ssp.
He was signed fit for work on 5th march but didn't go back to rig until 19th due to his rotation. They paid him sick pay until 18th and full wages from 19th. How can he get sick pay if fit for work and its not his fault his rotation didn't start for 2 weeks. Is he entitled to full pay from time he was deemed fit for work?

I would think so, if hes fit to work and hes on his rota days off, hes still technically working that shift pattern. Although it might have been better if he had been able to go back even a couple of days before the scheduled time off started.
Sounds v much like they are trying to save cash, if hes fit for work, hes fit for work and shouldnt be getting paid sick pay.0 -

Its a rig though so even though he is fit how would he get there to be on work?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

How long has he been off?
Has he been paid for ALL time off or only his shifts he would have worked?
It seems strange that they would pay him sick pay for when he was not allocated a shift to work.

He works on a 3 week rotation and is paid an annual salary monthly rather than by the shifts he works. He would have been happy to return to work the day he was signed fit but the company kept him off the rig until his original rota came round. He had been off with a non-work related knee injury and received 3 months full salary and then ssp from February.
I agree that he shouldn't have been on sick pay but I can't find a definitive answer online so he can ask the company to pay the full pay we feel he is entitled to.

An update is that the medical company that signed him fit for work (which was paid for and organised by my husband's company) sent a letter dated 18th march stating they had seen him that day. Very strange as the appointment was 5th march!!0
