new car???

Hi

Im a little confused as to what options I have

declared br late november and I did not own a car at the time as i cycle to work etc.

My wife owns a beat up old 4x4 with very little value and the OR was not interested in the vehicle what so ever.

We now have the problem of the repair and running costs of this car getting out of control so would like to get a new one just to nip to the nearest supermarket ( 12 miles away ) and run our 1 year old to play group etc

wife is currently unemployed ( full time mum )
im still undischarged
no savings or lump some of money to buy a vehicle so was considering getting a cheap eco friendly car from a local garage on finance (£87 per month) with no deposit

how would i go about getting this car or something similar?

Comments

  • Find some one credit worthy thats willing to put the agreement in there name is the only way. Lot easier said than done when undischarged.

Have you got the surplus in your SOA for a car?
  • HI

    Thanks for your swift response

i had a feeling that was going to be my only option and unfortunately that's not a option for us

no i dont have the full amount in surplus however the car we currently use is in the highest tax bracket plus terrible on fuel and not having this cost would make the difference

Does your employer do any salary sacrifice car schemes. I've just ordered a car with mine. No credit checks and payment comes out before I get taxed.

Can't think of any other ideas sorry.
  • what a brilliant idea i will check with HR in the morning!

Being honest because i cycle to work the car is only required to pop to shops etc but this is obviously this is still essential

I dont want to get a car on finance but at same time cant see any other way of changing the vehicle as dont have any spare income to put away!

im guessing alot of people must have come across this issue

HI..is it just you that is BR?

Or did both of you petition for BR?

If just you..then that would explain why the OR had no interest in the 4x4?
[since it is owned by your partner]

Whilst you yourself are undischarged, you cannot take on credit of more than £500 in value without informing the creditor of your BR.

    This may be an issue.

However, if your partner isn't BR, they they may be able to apply for some sort of credit.....[I assume you severed all joint financial links prior to BR?]

As you are employed, there should be an allowance within your SOA for transport costs.

To be clear, just because a car may be deemed by you as 'essential', doesn't mean it would meet the OR's criteria as 'essential' ? [the rules are in the stickies above]

However, that would only apply for a car owned by you.

Your partner can 'own' a car if not BR, but the running costs may not be directly claimable on your own SOA.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • A very well worded response:T:T

  • Hi Everyone

I really appreciate all your help

We have decided to switch to online grocery shopping and get ourselves more fit and healthy and buy a couple of second hand pushbikes to run the boy to playgroup

Credit Unions are good but you'll need a guarantor. I don't know if you have any Unions near-by but their payment options are great and their interest rates are very reasonable. Also, buy from a dealer. There is no point buying from a guy on the street because you'll need some warranty when you are going to get a loan. Good Luck dude.
