Hi does anybody know how reservations work on cross country trains my friend bought me and him tickets to travel in June and ticked the reserve seats box but the confirmation says no reservation. I am guessing this is because the seats may not haev been released yet but the website doesn't have any details of when this will be. Does anyone know what we can do I might just be missing something obvious.
He bought via the train line.

  • It will depend on what tickets you bought. Not every ticket type comes with a compulsory reservation so you may have to ring them up to reserve a seat.

there might be some unreservable trains in your journey itinerary ie your traveling say from; london to hexham, the london to newcastle part will have a reservation but from newcastle to hexham will be unreserved as you cant reserve a seat on a local commuter train. but if its on a reservable train then pop to the station and ask for a reservation or phone crosscountry trains 0871 244 2389

He might have booked too early booked too early - before the cheap fares have been released. If that's so he's paid the full fare, not got any reservations and paid trainline's fees to boot.

Or as said above maybe the trains are not reservable anyway. Doen't fully make sense with Cross Country though - AFAIK all their trains have reservations if booked at the right time.

Gah well too late now. TBH I would have shopped about but he wanted to get it out of the way and we have to travel together (its for Glastonbury) I am going to pop in to the station tomorrow anyway to ask about the reservation.

Depends what station you are using for Glastonbury but my initial reaction is that Cross Country don't go anywhere near there. And their cheap tickets aren't released for the festival dates anyway

As you say, too late now. But too early to add reservations even if they will become available

Castle Cary is the main station for Glastonbury, followed by Bridgewater, which some Cross Country trains to the South West do stop here, when Glastonbury is on.

We are going Manchester to Bristol with Cross country then its a Great western to Castle Carey not fussed about standing on the second bit its only the Manc to Bristol leg.
Know its not in the money saving spirit but couldn't face hours sat on national express
Just checked some random midweek prices for same journey and they come up same price so not feeling too bad. Optimistic mood on.
