Wouldn't it be cheaper to take the money and buy the meter and strips there?0

They're not very expensive.
Cost of the strips can add up, and best not to buy in too bigger quantity as they don't have a too longer shelf life.

1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Ask at a pharmacy what strips they can get in cheapest, then buy the matching meter even if it's not the lowest price it is the strips which hit the wallet. TBH I'd buy one out there, you don't know what test strips are available in the Phillipines.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
