online Banking and bankruptcy

I have a Barclays cash card account and was bankrupt in February. I was able to use online banking up till then but it has now been suspended. I am finding this a total nightmare, as I used online everyday to check Diredt Debits and payments, etc. I'm frightened to use my debit card in case I use money that's for a direct debit that hasn't been paid yet - especially with the bank holidays altering payment dates. Does anyone have any advice or can tell me why you can't have this facility during bankruptcy?

  • Unfortunately Barclays are well known for suspending online access during BR.

Can you open a second basic account with Barclays so that at least you can keep your direct debits and standing orders separate from your spending account?

  • I opened a basic account with barclays the day after I became bankrupt.

I was told there was no way I could have online banking until I'd been discharged

I just went on line, requested it and a couple of days later the log in details and sentry was sent through to me.

Not sure if its different being a suspended online account, but its worth trying

The account would probably not be 'suspended'......but just the online access part.

The risk of obtaining internet access 'by the back door' [and well done for achieving this].....comes when the bank discovers the error, and suspends internet access.

This might...or might not...happen...but..given Barclay's acknowledged policy in this respect, should not be relied upon.

The theme of this particular thread hilites the vitally important need to be fully prepared in all financial and domestic respects, prior to going into Court for the BR Petition.

Not of use to the OP, but a warning for those who are lurking?

Unless compelled by a threat of a Charging Order [used to convert unsecured debt into secured debt]......then the BR petition really is the last thing one needs to do, rather than the first.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
