Debt being cleared

Hi I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. While at uni in 2003 I had a very difficult time with money and my bank (Barclays). Eventually I had a nervous breakdown and just left my flat and all my belongings and went away for a long time.

I have since moved away from that area, but I had left my account in debt for around £1,200. I do not bank with that bank since leaving uni and quite a few people have told me after X amount of years that debt gets wiped if they are unable to get intouch with you.

Is this true?!?

Cheers

AJ

Yeah, bloody banks for assuming you'll pay them what you owe them. How terrible of them

You can afford to repay it yet choose not to....interesting.

Tell me why you think that is acceptable ?

I cant afford to repay them thats the point. When I found out that I owed it them I started to really worry about how I was going to pay them back, I only earn just over £800 a month and have a flat to support so although £1,200 aint a lot to some people it would dent me majorly.

And no I don't really think its acceptable not to pay them, and again I dont think its acceptable the way banks treat their customers, the reason I had a breakdown and tried to top myself was simply because of my bank not helping me out in uni when I was desperate. THAT was unacceptable.

How did you find out about of the debt? It becomes statue barred from the last point of contact/acknowledgement, not 6 years from when the account went into arrears.
