Council tax

Good evening all,
I am not sure if this topic has been covered before. My council in Northampton and following the current governmental changes will start charging 100% council tax even if the property is not occupied or not furnished. I am going to Australia and I was told that this is the new rule. Even if I am not around to use the Council services, I was told that I must pay the full tax.
Is this legal?
Any thoughts please?

Yes, it is legal.

You're lucky it's only 100%. Some councils are charging 150% for empty properties! And yes, sadly it is legal.0
