Can I be self-employed doing various jobs?

I'm very seriously considering leaving my stressful job and starting up self-employed. I have no idea about how to do this but have been researching on the GOV website and on here.
Firstly, I would like to start a cleaning/organising/decluttering service (I've done cleaning in the past for pin money).
Secondly, I would like to try and earn money online by using the various 'up your income' websites. I would also LOVE to write, as a freelance writer/author.
Thirdly, due to my qualifications may consider working independently with clients in the future (can't say much about this) which would mean yet another sideline and possibly another business name.
Do I register as a cleaning business but then add on any money I get paid for other stuff onto the self assessment? Can I have 2 separate businesses?
Also, how do I work all this out when it comes to child tax credits? We get a small amount now but if I leave my job we won't have much money at all to begin with, though at the same time I simply cannot carry on in my current job as it's making me very ill and there are no jobs in my area.
Thanks for your help

You can register as a sole trader, Im a sole trader and my business doesnt have a name, its just me, although I appreciate you might want to give the business a name.
Ive always found HMRC fairly helpful, I cant be specfic as I only do the line of work I do at the moment and nothing else, but I know people who do more than one job in self employment.0 -

Sorry, can't help regarding child tax credits.
Regarding registering with HMRC - you register as self-employed and can mention that your main business activity will be in cleaning and related services. Any self-employment earnings from whatever source are included on the same self-assessment form/online submission.0
