How much are you expecting?

For anyone who is unemployed and searching for full time work, how much are you expecting to earn per year as all the vacancies that I come across are usually NMW. There are some that are well paid but obviuosly you need plenty of experience and your fighting against a lot of other applicants.

It makes it even worse that the way things are now, busineses are now giving pay rises the way they used to.

I had an email from a agency asking if i was ok with NMW for a job I was paid an whole pound more an hour around 5 years ago, I said I would be ok with NMW but would accept more if it was on offer. I guess the agency try to get away with paying NMW.

Depends on the role for most jobs I would expect NMW but if I was doing someting along the lines of Helpdesk Support work which I used to do then I would be looking for a salary of £16k plus. When I left HDS I was on £18k, plus bonus and OT and was a team leader as well.

With my experience and the role I used to do the going rate in London is £27-£32k but I am applying for jobs starting at NMW too where I am not taken seriously (not too many as for what I did they do not pay NMW as this is normally a small co or a junior role)

I even asked at the WP when setting up a profile on a site as the salary range only started at 20k what to put as I had to look for jobs at £12k and he told me to put £25-£30k but I said I can't put that as the JC say I have to apply for NMW jobs and he said 'do not be stupid'

Unfortunately employers know fully well that there are lots of people willing to work for minimum wage so they only pay minimum wage, even if years ago they were paying more.

Few years ago I was earning £10 an hour. After a couple of years of unemployment and temp jobs i've finally found a more permanent position and now i'm earning minimum wage. Better than nothing though and glad to have a job!
