Old postage stamps

Options
Last year my mum passed away. Whilst clearing the attic I found my old stamp collection from when I was a kid (yes I was a bit geeky:)). It's from the late 70's / early 80's, so new money. I've checked ebay and I would either get peanuts or nothing for them. So my question is, can I use them for post that I send now? I have no interest in keeping them, but don't want to just chuck them.

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place.

If you want them to post things, you can.

For example, if you have a 7p stamp you can use it to pay 7p towards the postage. I'd only use them for second class postage, non-urgent items as I think RM might not instantly recognise them.

Thanks for the reply. It's the not being recognised aspect that I think worried me, so good advice to only use them for 2nd class non urgent items.

No, they are recognised no problem at all. My husband collects stamps and receives post from stamp dealers - the envelopes are often covered with small-denomination stamps from the last few decades. They arrive just as quickly as other post, no trouble at all. Just as long as they are mint, that is un-used stamps!

We do this ourselves sometimes too, as long as your stamps cover the correct postage cost you'll be fine.
