Council Tax Band review

Hi everyone,
My wife and I completed the purchase on our apartment early April 2007 and have received a council tax bill since. We are on band C.
Out of the 8 apartments on our level, only 2 apartments (incl ours) are on band C and the rest are on B. One of the band B apartments is fairly similar to ours and would like to request for a review. Should I use the purchase price of my apartment to calculate the rough value?
Thanks,
D

Not sure that purchase price is a factor now whereas it was in 1991. Put in an appeal on the basis that another similar flat is in a lower band. If VOA reject your appeal they'll tell you why.
Relative of mine did this with his house and got band reduction backdated to 1991. VOA are unlikely to raise your band so what have you got to lose.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
It must be a nice sized appartment to be a Band C.
I would advise you to appeal against your banding. They base the valuation of your property from what it was valued in 1991 as we all know. When you appeal you/ your neighbours can go up or down a band or stay the same but I doubt you would go up a Band to Band D so I would appeal.
Their web site is
https://www.voa.gov.uk
There is loads of info on there on how they base the valuation of your property on certain assumptions so you can really'swat up' on the info before you appeal (which you can do online too).0 -
Thank you for your advise guys, its really helpful. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about appealing previously, as I am afraid that VOA might raise my existing band. Based on your advise, I will certainly go ahead.
I have followed the steps on MSE and used my purchase price to find out what the value was in 1991. Based on the Band table on MSE, the corresponding band is B. Fingers crossed!0
