    Commonsense & judgement.

Jobcentres should have record to check if it happens again.

Oh so its fine to ask for proof after what? 2? 3? excuses. Or do you want a completely willy nilly policy, oh you don't look like the normal riff raff in here, I will let you off...

If you phoned work etc & said someone is dying I have to go to hospital, would they ask you for proof ?

Possibly, it isn't an unreasonable request. Most would allow you to take a days holiday at short notice.

Because that's life & things happen.

What happens at other places, work, college, other appointments.

Most organisations will ask an employee for some kind of proof if they are asking for emergency time off or compassionate leave.

Active labour lasts 5-12 hours on average, longer if you include early labour. For most people, this means he could have made his appointment and certainly given him time to reschedule. That said, my god daughter was out in 40 minutes.

He also could have attempted to sign late or early the same day.

All persons claiming jsa are allowed 4 domestic emergencies. The person would also be allowed reasonable time to attend the birth etc.

We are not getting the full story how many other appointments has he missed? Was she actually giving birth on that day or was it around the time ? Has he been allowed to attend all her appointments? Are they actually a couple? these all need asking first, two side to every story.

I can understand entirely where your coming from, unfortunately your friend is going to have to appeal. Tell him to explain in detail about the labour etc

My partner was two minutes late for an appointment at the jobcentre and was penisalised with two weeks pay. We appealed and was paid back the monies and was issued a fomal apology. This was because the staff couldn't read my partners handwriting, he's dyslexic, thus making him late for his appointment.

Its an awful process but should be fine
