First Direct Fixed Rate Mortgage - Please Check Your Statement

I received a mortgage statement from First Direct last week, giving me all the details of my mortgage account e.g. account no, length left to go, the interest rates I have been paying etc. My husband and I have an offset mortgage with a fixed rate for 3 years. I noticed that they had listed 4 different interest rates over 4 periods of time, none being the one we are paying so I queried this. I was informed that the rates listed were relevant to the Standard Variable Rate being charged by First Direct and was a generic print on all mortgage account holders statements and was assured that we were acutally paying a fixed rate.
I received a phone call this morning to inform me that we had been charged the SVR and not the fixed rate as we had signed up to. First Direct have now worked out how much we have been over charged and are crediting our mortgage account to the tune of nearly £1100. I noticed that the interest we were paying went up and down but put that down to what was in our current account at the time. It was only a supervisor listening to my recorded call for that brought this matter to their attention. For those of you who have a fixed rate mortgage with First Direct, please check your statement carefully and query anything you are unsure of with them.
