what to do

Hi all

I've just had a meeting with a mortgage broker recommended by a friend, he was very good and can get me the miortgage i need at a really good affordable rate.

He has told me he won't charge a fee as long as i take out all the neccessary insurance with him. His fee is £250, should i offer to pay this and find my own insurance or let him do it? Can i change the insurance company after a year or are they fixed for the term of the morgage agreement?

I would walk away and find another broker who doesnt charge any fees and doesnt tie you in to buying their own insurance products. Do you even need the insurance?
  • If you are confident enough in your own ability to source your insurances, why don't you source your own mortgage?

The insurances are life, building etc. I do feel confident i can find these, finding a mortgage is a bit different i would have thought. I'm just wondering if i find myself the insurances would i get them for cheaper than the £250 fee he would charge.
