bought myself a mark 3 (2003) ford mondeo last month, unfortunately it only came with a single key which has 3 buttons built in for remote unlocking. there's no spare and unfortunately no master coding key.

I'd like to get a spare made up with a transponder, not too bothered whether it has remote unlocking or not (unless the extra cost is negligible) but basically just a way to get into the car and get it started should i lose my key.

i know it is fairly easy to buy spare keys and code them yourself, BUT you need two original keys to code a spare. and i only have one. so it looks like i will most likely have to go a ford dealer. unless anyone can tell me differently?

there are places on ebay that offer to do it, but number 1 it's ebay so could [probably will] be dodgy, and number 2 i can't really do without the car so can't post off the key.

does anyone know where/how i can get a spare key, please?

thanks for any help!

unless someones knows otherwise i think ford is your only bet.

Ebay is fine but obviously you wont be able to use your car. Must be someone local.

I took one key to havlins (behind castlecourt) and they were able to do me a copy. it doesn't do remote locking but is coded for the immobilser. About £25

thanks for the reply, guys. i got a remote fob and blade cut from ebay for £20 and found a place on beersbridge road (key centre) that will code the remote transponder for £30. so still £50 but a heck of a lot cheaper than the £130 ford wanted!!

i might just phone that havlins place you mention, bazzac, and see if they are any cheaper
