Just a thought, but have you thought about making a cloth advent calendar.
You could use the material from clothes you don't wear or the kids have outgrown. This would be particularly good if you have a favourite outfit you want to remember and it's easy enough to sew / embroider numbers onto the pockets.
We have one in the shape of a Christmas Tree but it would be equally as easy to make one in the shape of a snowman and then sew 24 / 25 pockets onto it and fill them with little bits and bobs of home made biscuits / sweeties for each day. This way Christmas lasts longer, although I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing!
Also what about making your own bath bombs? Oh and I remember the blue peter episode (boy do I feel old now!) where they or should I say I made bath salts from soda crystals (bashed up of course), food colouring and some smelly stuff, lovingly shoved (placed gently) into an empty heinz salad cream bottle and tied with a blue ribbon. Ahhhh the memories.
Now there's a thought - keep and eye out for what's going on with Blue Peter and their arts and crafts stuff as you could get your 3 year old involved with lots of stuff from there!
Or you could do the infamous Blue Peter Advent Calendar !!!!!!!
Oh and finally congrat's on the new arrival!0 -
I have a similar agreement with a friend - we can only spend £5 on each other. Last year, I used the freeby thread as well as gathering other freebies and gave her a beach bag (free with a mag) filled with loads of cosmetics and toiletries, makeup bag, books, sunglasses, sarong etc. She couldnt believe what I had obtained for free! I also got her a slow cooker for free (a bit small though) and some free recipe books.0

I love the idea of doing an advent calendar...I think I have a knitting pattern for one somewhere but sewing one would be much quicker....mmmm I could make some fudge or toffees to go into the pockets...You've got me thinking now.
