I've often wondered whether, when someone complains that his house is in a higher band than his neighbours', a council will respond by increasing the neighbours'.
Free the dunston one next time too.

Has she recently moved into the house?

Unless the rules have changed, it is not possible to increase the band on an existing house for the existing occupant even if substantial improvement or an extension occurs. They have to wait until the house is sold, possibly decades later, then they tell the new owner they will re-value it with the new extension etc., as I found out to my cost:(

A band can be increased or reduced at any time if it is found to be incorrect, but it cannot be increased solely on account of improvements or alterations carried out by the current owner after 1 Apr 1993 (Eng and Scot) or 1 Apr 2005 (Wales).
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

The Valuation Office Agency deal with CT bands in Eng and Wales and the Assessor in Scot. Councils aren't involved in the actual banding.

If on investigation it is found that complainant is in the right band and the neighbour is in the wrong band, then the neighbour's band should be increased.
