FTB Houses in South Belfast

Hi,

I'm a First Time buyer in my mid 30's looking to purchase in the South or South East Belfast area.

I've been looking through PropertyPal for ages now and although there seems to be a number of Semi-detached properties on the market, they seem to be quite big for a single person.

Are there any smallish semi-detached properties out there or is it just a matter of sucking it up and pruchasing one of these places that seme a bit big for me on my own?

I have an adversion agaisnt apartments as they are crowded, nowhere to work on your car/bikes etc and are full of rentals. Plus the Maint fee's bring the costs up to close to that for repayment on a house.

I also have not seen a terrace house yet that I would even consider.

I don't want ot be rattling through a large house, although similarly I don't want to be cramped in a place that I would regret later.

Any advice?

  • New build semis tend to be smaller with smaller plots - much easier for single people to manage! Though belfast housing stock is largely older semis.

    How about

    Hi Funkey,

I'm also househunting in south Belfast - the market is pretty unremarkable at the moment although hopefully should pick up in the 'summer' months. I'm looking for a terrace, so not really been looking at semi's, but perhaps an end terrace would suit you if you don't want so much space but also don't want neighbours at either side?

Are you looking at any areas in particular?

I'd say we're back to 2001 prices by that example. Isn't it great?

Prices seem to be pretty decent where I'm looking too (BT5/6). Some clearly overpriced compared to the rest but no real suprise as some people will have to try and cover the mortgage when they sell.

Definately a buyers market and if I am able to get a mortgage sorted then I'll definately be taking advantage of that fact.
