    To be fair the second house could have been sold since then, I wonder if its the same brother mentioned in the children and equestrian thread.

  • Check out the Furniture Reuse Network and look for furniture recycling places in your area. You may find one close to you that has refurbished washing machines - and possibly carpet - for a reasonable price. With regard to paint, look on your council website and see if you are near a paint recycling depot. Or make friends with the people at your CA site who have to dispose of paint and MAY allow you to take some (although I'm not quite sure how legal this is so you might want to check!). If you can wait long enough, most things eventually come up on Freecycle.
