What company was it you are with ?
Im AA and they are OK...0 -
I've never understood this. It's not as if you're asking for credit, since if your monthly payment isn't made your policy ends and becomes void (I think).
Still, from what other people have said, the insurers who do this are in the minority.

God  They'll start credit checking you to pay cash at the supermarket next.
Still, it's their loss.
Hope you find somewhere else that are more helpful.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I took out a 5 year guarantee on 3 appliances I bought from Iceland a year ago. (Fridge, tumble dryer and dishwasher) With 5 kids thought it would be sensible. Paid first installment up front, followed by 10 monthly payments of £22.
At the time of BR, I thought we had finished our paymnet plan. As it turned out we had 1 month left. I received a 'default on loan letter.' I was fuming. How dare they.
It was over the top insurance, I had not even been late paying the final instalment. Their default letter arrived 2 weeks before it was due!!!
So, 17 minutes on hold and finally I get through. Mr A*se takes my payment, treating me as though I am dirt.
4 days later an answerphone message from Iceland. Call them back. Card details not correct. re-check card details, informed that the card is not valid. Argue that I have used it twice that day and it's fine. Slowly dawns on me that maybe it's the Visa Electron thingy.
So I say 'Do you not accept Electron?'
He says 'No of course we don't, and as your payment has been refused we will be cancelling your loan agreement and your insurance will be cancelled.'
I explain that I do not have another card to pay with. He says ask someone else.
I said 'I can't, there is noone else here'
He says 'We will cancel'
I say 'Can we set up the payment to come from my new account?'
He says, 'No there is not enough time'
I say 'How f**king rude. You take over £200 from me for insurance, don't tell me that you don't accept my card, take 4 days to get back to me, and claim you will cancel the whole thing, even though my monthly paymnet date has not yet been reached?'
He says 'OK give me your account details'
Takes them and hangs up.
