Frozen fish query.

Options
I have some fish that was bought in may 2012, it was fresh cod in a vacuum pack. I put it in the freezer and it's still there. Is it safe to eat or should I chuck it?

Also have some calamari that was bought at the same time, this was already frozen. Same question, is it safe to eat?

Thank you. :)

    It should be absolutely fine.

Food cannot go off in a properly working freezer. The quality can deteriorate if it is not well wrapped and it gets freezer burn but that won't harm you, it just might not taste quite as good.

I'll add this thread to the quick questions on freezing thread later as your query may help others.

If you're still really worried, try the good old MSE OS 'sniff test'.

    1. Open the packet.
    2. Sniff the contents.
    3. If you don't pass out, use them.
    4. If you do pass out, throw them away when you come round.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

Ha ha I always do that. :D
Just had something in my head about not keeping fish frozen for longer than 3 months.

Edit.......Like your signature.....My bunnies are snuggled together in their hutch in their shed with the radiator on! :D

I had salmon in my freezer for well over a year - it was fine and really didn't taste any different.
