UPS Won't deliver to PO Boxes

I had to post some legal documents to the US and used UPS to do this. The only address we were given was a PO Box address. UPS collected the documents and 'tried' to deliver them but they don't deliver to PO Boxes. In the end I had to get them delivered to a US relative, who has put them in the US postal service.

I couldn't find anything on the UPS website which says they don't deliver to PO Boxes. I asked two members of their customer service team where the information was: one said it was obvious, but couldn't give me a site address, the other said I'd have to search for it on the site.

If we'd known they don't deliver to PO Boxes, then we wouldn't have used them.

Do I have any rights to ask for my money back or a goodwill gesture? If their own staff don't know where the information is and the system doesn't check the address entered, then they took my money knowing they would never be able to deliver them to the correct address.

I've asked for a goodwill gesture and they have refused, saying it is my fault for sending to a PO Box address.

Thanks.

By the sounds of it they attempted delivery.

It could be that it's not exactly that they dont deliver to PO Boxes but that they must have a signature where they drop them off. Some PO Box organisations will sign on behalf of their clients and so UPS can deliver there where as other PO Box organisations wont and so UPS cant deliver because of the inability to get a signature which they somewhat incorrectly blame on it being a PO Box

How did you 'use' UPS - directly or via a third party? The third party is liable for informing you if you used one.

None of the couriers deliver to PO Boxes in the US by default.

It is very difficult for anyone, except the post office, to deliver to a PO Box.

Some people use PO Boxes to hide their real address.
The real address associated with a PO Box can change from time to time, and the actual postcode (or zip) associated with the PO Box could be that of the local delivery office.

That's correct. The postcode for my employer's PO Box is the main post office, not the actual premises of my employer, some 4 miles away.

UPS would be trying to deliver to the wrong address without being able to locate the true delivery address.
