Which Basic Bank Account?

Hi again. I don't post on here very often but think I'm seriously obsessed with the forum. (Log on every spare chance - usually a couple of times a night).

Anyway I'm looking for some more advice. Still terrified about phoning CCCS and wanted to have a couple of things in place first so that I'm all organised. I do need to act quite quickly now as I can't make the minimum payments this month.

I have put caller ID on my phone and now I want to open a basic bank account but don't know which banks are linked to my Creditors.

My creditors are

Northern Rock - Loan
Lloyds TSB - Loan
Mint- CC
Capital One - CC
Virgin - CC

Which bank should I approach re opening an account.

Once I have done this and my first month's salary has gone in I will definitely phone CCCS. I've explained on previous threads the massive extent of my debts (and rising) and that I can't let my OH find out.

Can I take my name off our joint account and if I do that will he still be able to use it as normal?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I really just want to get the ball rolling now so I can maybe sleep again.

Thank you.

we have A&L and a Nat West Step both are fine and give you a debit card, plus the A & L gave us a chequebook which is handy

You need to choose a bank you have no debt with so Lloyds is out and so is The Royal Bank of Scotland as they own Mint. I would have said A&L or Barclays is fine. Remember to take proof of income and ID with you when you go to open an account. Also you might have to open it by post or make an appointment. Ask for a basic account with no credit check.

    Hope this helps.

I would recommend Natwest basic account. Comes with a Solo card and DD's can be set up and salary deposited.

Thanks Keren and Lenny for the advice. I have sent a PM Lenny

I am just really scared of applying for a new bank account in case I am declined.

Should I tell them I am about to try for a DMP or just keep quiet? If they ask me my incomings / outgoings they will see for themselves I'm in real trouble.

If you apply for an A&L account, go through quidco for £50 cashback. I didn't know about it and missed out
