Living in a 6'6" by 6'5" bedroom...

Hello,
I am looking at viewing two fairly new houses. One has a third bedroom that is 6'6" by 6'5" and the other is 6'7" by 6'5". I am hoping to get a single bed, a small wardrobe (single door), and a small computer desk (with a slide-out keyboard shelf to save space). I am going to view these two properties with a tape measure in hand to check dimensions but I wondered if anyone had a room this size already furnished. Am I being wildly optimistic trying to get a wardrobe and desk in there?
Here's my thinking:
If the room is 6'6" wide then a single bed that is 3 foot wide would leave 3'6". Then a single door wardrobe that is 16 inches wide (these are available on amazon) would leave about 26 inches. That seems to me to be just wide enough for a person to sit at a computer. I just wonder if this will be too cramped.
It just seems like all the 3 bedroom newish houses I can afford have the same size (i.e. tiny) third bedroom!

Based on my 2+yrs of 'viewings' experience, I would say you will struggle to put in so many items into a 6'7" by 6'5" room. Its more of a large box than a room. There is more to life than increasing its speed.0

You do realize that if you put pigs into such a small space it is illegal but it is ok for people to live in the space..Go figure..I would challenge anyone who tried to tell me that size was a bedroomIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
you can get what is called a small single which is 30 x 79 inches which will free up a bit more floor space - get a bi fold door in place so not banging into furniture and go for some sort of build in storage along one wall where you can dictate depthI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

My sister had a house with a bedroom this size. Her son lived in it for 24 years without any issues and had a bed (2' 6" not 3'0"), a wardrobe and a dressing table.
It does work and is a useable bedroom. The only thing they changed was to have the door open outwards, so not encroach on the lmited floorspace.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
That is really tiny. We are buying a new build as well but the rooms are much larger than that! The third bedroom/office is technically 17x9 but due to the shape livable space is about 10x9. The room holds a fold out sofa bed, a desk, and a chair. At your size you might - might - be able to squeeze the furniture in there, but it will be very uncomfortable for anyone to be in that room.
What is the total square footage of the property?0 -
Consider a cabin bed with storage under the mattress? Then put shelves up high? or look at Michael Guerra "Compact Living" for exploded drawings of the drop down beds he used to support 3 lads in a 10x12 room?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

It's not a bedroom, it's a cupboard.
I know someone who lived with a a room of this size, they had to move house in the end because it was so ridiculously unworkable. And they then struggled to sell as the room was just so uselessly small.
Steer clear and find a house with proper sized rooms. Don't settle for a cop out when you're spending so much money anyway.
Putting in smaller furniture to try and make the room feel bigger is just nuts."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Don't be sensationalist. I can guarantee you that there are hundreds of thousands of semi detached houses built in both the interwar period and in the 1950's, 1960'S and 1970's with rooms of this size. Many kids have grown up in a bedroom like this and many more will.
We just seem to have an obsession now, brought on by TV lifestyle programmes that all bedrooms have to be doubles.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Interestingly the Government insist that for the terms of the new rooms allocation for HB purposes it is a bedroom even though it is smnaller than the decent homes standard of 50 sq foot.
No wonder we live in the smallest houses in Europe. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I have a single room bedsit with a partitioned off "bedroom" bit. That "bedroom" is bigger than the OP's.
And I couldn't fit a desk in it.urs sinserly,
