Chinook brought in to feed farm animals.

saw that on news, was terrible but most of the animals would have a better chance of surviving the blizzard in barns than out in the fields
Judging by the number of cars abandoned and the reports of power lines and telegraph poles etc, difficulties experienced by emergency services reaching sick people, etc more than just the farmers were overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of snow.0 -
More on the news about it last night. So terrible and so bizarre that only three counties are affected whilst the rest of us have nothing, although some snow did fall here last night and lay it's virtually all gone now.0

the Irish air corp also helped for free .
A few people wont be pleased they flew in UK airspace .
I think the farmer where just happy to get the help ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
The Irish Air Corps fly in UK airspace all the time as part of the joint search and rescue operations. Same as the RNLI have lifeboat stations in ROI.0

Yep and the Coastguard Sea King helicopter comes from Sligo too, used again yesterday for the tragic accident at Portstewart. Coastguard and RNLI are nationwide thank goodness and do not consider boarders when saving lives.
We had no snow here at all but I was on the Bishops Road yesterday above Benone and still some substantial amounts on the sides of the road there. I'm sure all the stranded farmers were happy to receive any help from anyone, those pictures of all the lost lambs and sheep were awful.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Also the Commisioner of Irish Lights operates and maintains some of the Lighthouses in the province's waters, like the Maidens Lighthouse and Rockabill Lighthouse. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I was also saddened to see the farmers on tv over the past week or so. I also felt sorry for the farmer who was on TV last night saying that he lost a lot of his sheep as they had went to shelter in some bramble bush however under the Farming law or something, he had only cut the bushes away and the sheep died.
A bit of a stupid law I think, if it gives the animals some shelter! Saying that maybe some farmers who will be repairing sheds etc after this snow, maybe think about putting pitched roofes on them??? instead of flat ones. Will mean less of a chance of the same thing happening again.
I was also glad to see that the helicopters were sent to help the farmers out, but I was disgusted to hear that the MOD were charging for this help, whereas the Irish Air Corps donated their services for FREE.
Surely the taxes that all of us in N.Ireland pay each year should have paid for that help, although we shouldn't have had to pay at all!
So well done to the Irish Air Corps etc for having a heart and not seeing the money signs, and actually helping those poor farmers, and shame on the MOD for their lack of kindness.
Here's hoping for a thaw to come and not cause anymore problems such as flooding etc.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
A wee follow up to this. Apparantly 9,500 sheep, mostly lambs, died as a result of the snow. A crushing blow to Northern Ireland sheep farmers.0
